3-5 Program Description
Instructional Model
Students in grades 3‐5 are building upon the foundation laid in the early grades while still developing basic skills
in the core academic areas. The Mercury model provides them with a combination of daily and hands‐on
teacher support and structure, while at the same time allowing them to grow their independence through the
flexibility of the online learning environment. In addition, students in grade 5 move to a model in which they
have subject area specific teachers rather than one core teacher.
Curriculum
All curriculum is fully aligned with state standards. Students will master benchmarks through an engaging
program that addresses the following content areas
- Language Arts: Reading and Literature; Writing; Speaking, Listening, and Viewing
- Math: Number and Operation; Algebra; Geometry and Measurement; Data Analysis and Probability
- Science: Nature of Science and Engineering; Physical Science; Earth and Space Science; Life Science

In addition, students will also receive instruction in the areas of world languages (including Spanish and French).

addition to the daily, independent check in, students are required to meet with their teachers as a class for an
online, interactive class session twice weekly. At grade 5, students are required to check in with each subject
area teacher daily. They also are required to attend an interactive class session in each subject area at least once
per week. For all grade levels, 3‐5, additional online sessions are offered each week that students have the
option of attending as needed.
