9-12 Curriculum
Students at the high school level are adequately prepared to navigate through their curriculum on a daily basis with the guidance of their instructors.
The list below provides some links to sample online activities used in Mercury classes. Remember, these are simply activities that, as stand alones, do not provide a complete instructional lesson. For the complete lesson, the teacher would provide instruction on the concept.
Language Arts
To Build a Fire
Jack London. Students learn about the Yukon setting, the theme and conflict for this story.
Thank you Ma’am
Students will analyze characterization through dialogue and prediction in this story by Langston Hughes.
Math
Combinations and Pascal’s Triangles
In this activity, students learn about different combinations of sets of objects.
Addition and Subtraction of Polynomials
In this manipulative activity, students explore the graphs of two polynomials and the graph of their sum or difference. Vary the coefficients in the polynomials and investigate how the graphs change in response. (Access to this link is limited without appropriate login credentials.)
Science
Balancing Chemical Equations
In this manipulative activity, students attempt to balance specific types of chemical reactions: combination, decomposition, single replacement, and double replacement. While balancing the reactions, the number of atoms on each side is presented as visual, histogram, and numerical data. (Access to this link is limited without appropriate login credentials.)
Introduction to Forces
In this activity, students will identify examples of common forces, including friction, on everyday objects, and describe how forces can be measured.
