6-8 Weekly Schedule

This is a sample schedule of what a week might be like for a student. Keep in mind that due to the flexible nature
of distance learning, the times suggested are for demonstration purposes. Students may work at the times that
best fit their schedule and that of their families, with the exception of the synchronous class times, which would
be planned at the beginning of each school year.

Assumptions:

  • Students are expected to log in and work daily.
  • Students in this grade band should have an adult facilitator to monitor daily progress.
  • Student schedules should allow for synchronous online class sessions in each subject area.
  • Students and staff respond to all email and phone communications within 24 hours on school days.

Daily Schedule – Grades 6‐8

NOTE: The Mercury model allows for students to work independently on learning paths identified to address
individual student needs. However, within these paths, all students are addressing state standards on a paced
schedule, allowing for strong class and community‐building opportunities each week.

8:00‐9:00
Student logs in to check for email communications and to view class announcements and the calendar
for the day.

9:00‐10:30 (three times per week)
Student logs in for online Paragon Humanities class session. Teacher activates prior knowledge and,
through Socratic Discussion, role play, graphic organizers, and a number of other effective teaching
strategies, presents new concepts and makes connections to prior knowledge. Paragon Humanities
will meet 3 times weekly, and 2 sessions per week will be dedicated to the other subject areas.
(Not all sessions will occur at the same time daily, but the schedule will be posted prior to the beginning
of the quarter.)

10:30‐1:00
Student works on daily lessons as outlined by the teacher (in the course calendar). Teachers are
available by phone, email, and via the online chat tool for assistance.

1:00‐1:40
Student logs into online class session for math. Teacher activates prior knowledge and presents new
concepts with student‐centered strategies.
Students will also have an online class session with their science and language arts teachers one day
each week. The time of day they are presented may vary.

1:40‐3:00
Student works on daily lessons, as outlined by the teacher (in the course calendar). Teachers are
available by phone, email, and via the online chat tool for assistance.
Before day’s end, student will confer with each subject area teacher regarding daily progress. This
check‐in will be conducted in a manner previously identified by the teacher (i.e. phone, email, chat,
online class), as determined by current student needs.

7:00‐7:30
Optional online class session and tutoring in various subjects.
